How Sitting Down Inside Your Office Is Slowly Killing You

An office can turn out to be a stressful and unsafe environment if not managed properly. With the kind of climate and the type of environment here in the Philippines, even the simple selection of office furniture and office chairs can make that difference in the safety of your employees. Contrary to popular belief, there are as much as work hazards of white collar job as there are for blue collar jobs. One of these hazards is the danger that poor posture can bring.

Office work nowadays can solely be accomplished by sitting down in front of a computer. This might sound easy in plain view since there are only minimal movements involved. But if you will look closely, the mere fact that office works involve minimal movements can be harmful, especially if you are not observing proper posture.

Complications that are caused by poor posture are things that will be felt by both the body and the mind. And if not corrected in time, poor posture may affect not only physical work but also your emotional and mental functions. Some of the negative effects of poor posture are the following:

Frequent Mood Swings
It is a given that whenever we are in pain, our mood is affected and we tend to get irritable easily. This can be associated with stress build-up that contributes to more complications. It may weaken your immune system, make you look older, make you gain weight, and ruin your teeth from food- and muscle-related stress coping mechanisms.

Improper Digestion
Incorrect posture is bad for the digestive system. Since your organs become compressed for seating for a very long time, this may result in discomfort, constipation, and even delayed metabolic conversion

Varicose Veins
Sitting still for long periods of time will have a toll on your legs and can lead to the formation of spider veins, particularly in women. The increased pressure of sitting and lack of circulation throughout the body is to blame for this.

Heart Attack
According to a 2010 study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, men who were sedentary for more than 23 hours per week had a greater risk of heart attacks.

Aside from these health effects, improper posture may also convey an image of disinterest, boredom, and nervousness that may affect how you communicate with other people. It will also make you less attractive and will give you an impression of the unhealthy lifestyle.

Poor posture is not a simple matter that should be taken lightly. With the innovation of time and involvement of more office works that can be accomplished in front of a computer, it will be expected that more office people will be exposed to the dangers of poor posture. To avoid this, make sure to allot a few minutes to stretch out and stand up once in a while to loosen up the tension in your body. You can also choose an office chair that is both comfortable, supports the back and spinal column and is made of materials that are ideal for Philippine weather.

6 Tips On How You Can Start Being An Organized Person

For those who are not naturally born organized people, sticking to the work system and committing to it can be a real pain and very straining. It takes consistency and dedication to keep it working. Even a moment of laziness can easily throw you off and will defeat the purpose of the system.

We know, some people might prefer the organized chaos, but being tidy has its own unique perks. Being organized has been statistically proven to actually improve work performance. It also gives you a mental boost by giving you the feeling of being in control. And of course, it saves you from those mini-heart attacks of not knowing which filing cabinet in the Philippines you have misplaced that very important document that is due in a few minutes.

If you are one of those guys who are having troubles with keeping your documents in tip-top condition and sorted in your office filing cabinet, fret not for it is not yet too late. There are several things that can help you to become an organized person.

1. Do it now. Chances are if you will let small tasks pile up, it will snowball into one big straining avalanche of a problem. So if you have the time to answer those email inquiries, do it now. Yes. Now!

2. Set your priorities straight. You’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish if you will spend your first few minutes on planning the day ahead. This will also save you from those missed deadlines.

3. Put it where it goes. Don’t leave your things lying out in the open. Decide whether it should be kept, filed, or tossed in the trash bin.

4. Write dates on your calendars and remember to check the calendar every day.

5. Invest on organizing gadgets and use them. There are many office stores in the Philippines that can offer you stylish filing cabinets, desk drawers, and in/out boxes. If utilized carefully, you will be surprised on how much time you can save for actual office work rather than look around for a misplaced item.

6. Never ever feel that the energy you spent for doing small organizing is wasted energy. Chances are you will be spending a lot more energy looking for the things you have misplaced.

7. Develop a routine and stick to it. Commitment is the key to staying organized. This doesn’t really mean that you will have a bunch of identical days doing the same things over and over again. This just means that you should develop a response for every work task that may come up. A pile of documents has been dropped to your desk? Check it immediately and sort it out. You just received a call? Write down the details so you won’t forget.

Not everyone may be gifted with hands that can turn clutter into order. But with the right mindset and knowing the right things to do, anyone can get away from the struggles of disorganization.

4 Helpful Productivity Tips In Organizing Your Office Work Place

4 Helpful Productivity Tips In Organizing Your Office Work Place

A good office manager would know that keeping the morale of the employees high boosts the productivity of the company. As long as the employees are happy, they will continue to contribute and produce quality results which will keep the company moving like a well-oiled machine. This is why an office manager should always be on the lookout for issues that may affect the productivity of the people.

One strategy of keeping the productivity in check is to keep the whole office organized and orderly. Some may prefer organized chaos when it comes to their office space, but keeping it tidy and neat has certain charms, too. Organizing can be a tedious and long process. Many get easily discouraged at the mere thought of organizing, especially when the subject involved covers a huge space and many people moving around. Just thinking about how the office partitions would go, or how to arrange the tables can take up a long time, but it can get easier with the right mind set and knowing what to do first. The following are several tips in keeping your office organized without sacrificing practicality:

Start with clean up

The first step in organizing is to get rid of everything that is not needed or unwanted. Take on one room at a time. Take time to look around for things that you haven’t used or accessed in a while and see if they are still needed. Check if certain items have been used in the past six months to decide if you are going to keep or not. If it is broken, send it for repair or throw it out. The idea here is to free up as much office space as possible to make room for reorganizing. Remove any decoration that just clutters instead of improving the surrounding.

Rearrange your office

Reevaluate the layout of your office, depending on how you want work to take place. There are office partition suppliers in the Philippines that can provide you with quality office furniture that are both durable and pleasing to the eyes at a very reasonable price range. Establish the work zones and decide what work will be done on a specific area.

Spruce up your desk

Keep only the things that are necessary to your work on a daily basis within your reach. Keep those you rarely use in a drawer. Have your trash receptacle and a piece of rag to help you maintain the cleanliness of your table. You can also maximize the use of office partitions to your own advantage. Get creative, but prioritize functionality.

Develop a filing system

Using a file system to organize important documents is applicable to both paper and digital documents. Organizing and sorting them will help you find important files immediately when you need them and tell whether they are missing. Always make sure to have a backup file for digital documents. Come up with a system for naming documents.

Organizing requires careful planning, dedication, and commitment. The key to effective organizing is sticking up to your system and making modifications depending on what it is demanded by the situation.

Pursuit of Office Comfort: Guide in Choosing the Right Office Furniture

Pursuit of Office Comfort: Guide in Choosing the Right Office Furniture

The work environment affects the morale and productivity of the employees. How you showcase your workplace can have a positive or negative effect on the people in it. But making an environment conducive for work is a lot harder than you think; we can say that it is like building a home for your kids, only this time, the kids are a lot grown up, can whine a lot about management, can heckle for incentives, have egos to protect, and can tear down your walls when exposed to a lot of pressure. And oh yeah, you do it for profit. What we are trying to point out is that, humans are complex living being. They can be weird at times, but they sure are complex. With the kind of working culture that we have in the Philippines, you will be surprised that even simple office furniture has significant effects.

The key for an effective workplace environment is choosing the right kind of office furniture. One may think that it will be the common style-versus-functionality argument but they are wrong. There is more to choosing the right office furniture than avoiding the extreme ends of the spectrum. The following are some of the things that you need to consider in choosing the right office furniture:

Budget
Don’t get me wrong when I say that this is probably the most important factor in choosing the office furniture. You see, managing a business is all about allotting the right amount of money on expenses. It’s important to first consider how much a business can pay for office furniture.

Necessity
Start with the things that are essential for the workplace to be functional. Sure, an indoor fountain or expensive painting can look good in your office, but it will not be enough if there are no comfortable tables and chairs for your employees to work on. In terms of style, it is important to consider what direction you want to go. Are you aiming for a more corporate or casual feel?

Functionality
You can consider to have wisely invested on good furniture if you can hit two birds with one stone with your purchase. Furniture with multiple functionalities are always a wise choice in an office environment. You are not just saving money, but you are also saving space.

Size
The size of the furniture should always be proportional to the size of the office. You have to provide just the right amount of space for work to take place and at the same time for them to freely move around. With the kind of weather that we have in the Philippines, there are some office furnitures that can cramp up the floor.

Design
A bit of mixing and matching the furniture for aesthetic purposes won’t hurt since a good office design can lighten up the mood in the office and make it more conducive for work. Make sure to do a bit of research in the psychology of colors to make total advantage of the office furniture that you are purchasing.
